Wix vs. WordPress vs. Joomla: The Real-World Guide (No Tech Talk)

A clean, modern workspace with three laptops representing Wix, WordPress, and Joomla as website platform choices.
Choosing a website platform shouldn’t feel like choosing a programming language. Here’s what really matters.

Most business owners don’t care about “platforms.”

Just like homeowners don’t care about “smart home platforms.”

They care about what fits their home, lifestyle, and goals.

You care about calls, leads, and ranking in your local area — not what your website is built on.

So here’s the truth in dealer language, not developer talk:

WordPress & Joomla Are the Crestron of Website Platforms. Sure they’re powerful. Flexible. Capable of anything. But ask yourself the same thing you ask your clients:

Does every home need Crestron?

No.

A penthouse?

A 25,000 sq ft estate?

A multi-system project with a full design team?

Yes — Crestron or HomeWorks makes sense.

But for 90% of homes, Ra2 or Control4 is all they need.

WordPress and Joomla are the same story:

Enterprise systems for enterprise needs.

This is a real SEMrush report from a long-running Joomla. Dont believe me? Hop on a zoom call and we will show you in real time

1. If you’re not running:

  • A national brand

  • A corporate division

  • Thousands of SKUs

  • Multiple teams updating content

  • A full-time marketing department

…then WordPress and especially Joomla is massive overkill.

Another legacy platform site with very limited visibility. If you want proof, I’ll walk you through the SEMrush data and the live website in a screen-share.

And here’s the part nobody tells you and you probably found out over time:

  • It’s expensive

  • It’s slow to update

  • You need a developer for everything

  • Simple edits become support tickets

  • Plugins break, need monitoring, and cost $$$ to maintain

You wouldn’t put a Crestron processor in a 1-bedroom apartment.

So why install an enterprise CMS for a local business?

2. Wix Is the Control4 / Caséta of Websites

Simple.

Powerful.

Clean.

Easy to update.

Everything included:

  • Hosting

  • SSL

  • Security

  • Backups

  • Speed optimization

  • Mobile optimization

  • Tech support

All built-in. No plugins. No add-on taxes.

And you own every page, every photo, every blog — just like WordPress.

If you ever want to migrate?

You can.

(You won’t want to, but you can.)

Before Wix — AV Synergy: Low traffic, limited keywords, slow momentum. Don’t believe it? I can open the historical SEMrush data live.

  1. “You Don’t Own Your Wix Website” Is a Myth

This rumor was created by legacy programmers and agencies who don’t want clients touching their own sites.

Here’s the real story:

✔ You own your domain

✔ You own your content

✔ You own your images

✔ You own your copy

✔ You can export everything

✔ You can rebuild on any other platform

You own 100% of it.

So when someone says:

“You don’t own your website unless it’s on WordPress…”

Ask them:

“Then why can I edit every part of it myself?”

They won’t have an answer.

Before Wix — Bravo AV: Minimal traffic, almost no organic lift. I’ll show you the SEMrush history on a live call for proof.

After Wix — Bravo AV: 5,019 AI queries and rising — visibility without plugins or developer tickets. Want to verify? I’ll pull up their live Wix analytics.

4. Most WordPress/Joomla Sites Don’t Even Use Their Features

Just like installing a full HomeWorks system but programming only 3 keypads.

That’s what agencies do with Joomla and WordPress:

  • Half-configured SEO settings

  • Plugins unused

  • Complex frameworks untouched

  • Bloated systems with only 10% being used

  • No schema markup

  • No page organization

  • No real ranking strategy

So you paid for Ferrari horsepower but got Honda Civic performance.

And here’s the punchline:

The content is cloned anyway.

If the copy is recycled across dozens of dealers,

the website platform doesn’t matter.

SEO is already dead on arrival.

5. Dealers Who Switch to Wix Love Three Things Immediately

Straight from Reddit, Quora, and dealer forums:

“I can finally update my own site.”

No more waiting 10 days for a button change.

“My SSL and hosting went from $300–$400 to $0.”

Everything is included.

"My local SEO went up because my site finally loads fast.”

Speed matters.

Wix is built for speed.

WordPress and Joomla depends on the plugins the agency remembered to install.

Before Wix — HiDEF: Declining traffic and limited ranking positions. You can watch me open this SEMrush timeline live.

After Wix — HiDEF: Nearly 1,000 sessions — clean, fast, stable, and finally getting traction.

6. Local Dealers Don’t Need a Corporate Website

Be honest about your business:

Are you a local AV shop under $5M per year?

Then You need:

  • A clean site

  • Built fast

  • SEO-ready

  • Easy to edit

  • No developer needed

  • No plugin emergencies

  • No hidden fees

That’s Wix.

Are you a national brand doing multi-state commercial work?

Then yes — go WordPress.

You need the Crestron-sized platform.

7. The Only Thing That Matters: Does Your Website Bring You Leads?

You’re not choosing a platform.

You’re choosing momentum.

If your agency gave you:

  • A WordPress or Joomla site with cloned copy

  • Slow load speeds

  • $300–$400 add-on taxes

  • Missing SEO

  • Confusing backend

  • Broken Google My Business setup

…then your website isn’t failing because of the platform.

It’s failing because it wasn’t built for you.

The Bottom Line

Dealers don’t need the biggest, most complex website system.

You need the one that matches your business.

If your website isn’t bringing you calls, the platform isn’t the problem.

The execution is.

And for 95% of dealers?

Wix is the perfect fit.

For most businesses, Wix is fast, practical, affordable, and easy to update without a developer holding the keys.

WordPress and Joomla?

They’re the perfect profit center for agencies — not always the perfect system for the business owner.

And if anyone wants to debate that, we’re more than happy to talk shop with any veteran web developer and compare analytics.

Real performance beats theory every time.
